Artist Statement
While growing up, I believed that I was the only deprived child on the
block, which was evidenced by my parents refusal to purchase coloring
books. Little did I realize, the promise that a blank sheet of paper holds
and how freeing! That blank paper was the crystallizing experience
for my future.
While working on my undergrad, I became fascinated with the myriad of art
supplies that could be used on a single piece and how they could flow
together to create a unified work of art. My Masters is in Education, where
I realized the importance of making mistakes and problem solving within my
own art and within my classroom. I am not afraid to try anything when it
comes to painting. Sometimes my best work or the best student work, was at
first, an Oops.
Currently as an art teacher at Hallsville High School, I find that I am now
challenging my students with that same blank paper, a clean slate to start
thinking OUTSIDE THE LINES, which is also the name of my new business
endeavor. It is exciting when my students ask," What is that going to be?"
...and I can honestly say, " I don't know yet! Truthfully, wherever, the
art leads me!" I primarily work on thick, stretched canvas using mixed
media. I have been commissioned to work on paintings for specific places in
homes and businesses. I chose these particular paintings to illustrate my
versatility with mixed media! Enjoy!
